Venerable B. Saranankara Mahāthera arrived in Kuala Lumpur from Sri Lanka in 1984. With a passion for social welfare service, Venerable founded Ithe Siri Jayanti Welfare Organization in 1991 which then started a Free Clinic, Free Tuition Classes and the Metta Home. In 1996, he renovated the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Kuala Lumpur. Since then, he has accomplished much more. Venerable

  • organizes the yearly Educare program with the Sri Jayanti Sunday Dhamma School which provides essential school items to needy Malaysian students
  • initiated the 'Buddhist Novitiate Program' at the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple for teenagers to experience as a novice monk
  • started the Maha Karuna Buddhist Society in 2001 to extend his spiritual and welfare programs to a larger section of the Malaysian community.
  • established the Mahā Karuna Compassionate Home in 2003, a senior citizens' home which also provides hospice services.
  • opened the Mahā Karuna Buddhist Centre in 2004, to serve the community in Subang 2 and its vicinity
  • formed the Yayasan Mahā Karuna in 2006 to serve the needy in Malaysia irrespective of race or religion.
  • was the Joint Organizing Chairperson of the Buddhist Culture & Arts Festival 2007
  • formed the "Malaysian Buddhists for Haiti Disaster Relief Fund" Committee in 2010 to collect funds for the earthquake victims in Haiti
  • assisted in the formation of numerous Buddhist organizations and temples
  • is the Spiritual Advisor to many Buddhist societies in Malaysia.

On 29th January 2007, the Supreme Council of the Mahā Sangha of the Malwatu Mahā Vihara, Malwatta Chapter of the Syamopali Maha Nikaya of Sri Lanka conferred the honorary title of "Sangha Keerthi Sri" upon Venerable B. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Mahā Thera and appointed Venerable as the Chief Adhikarana Sangha Nayaka of Malaysia.

In 2012, at the invitation of the Theravāda Buddhist Council of Malaysia (TBCM), he consented to be on its Monastic Advisory Panel.
