Venerable Ajahn Chamriang Candano Mahāthero, also known as Phrakhru Siddhikhanarak or Than Tiang by the local Thai communities, was born in Baling, Kedah. He received his Upasampada (higher ordination) at Wat Prakthat (Palelai) in Baling in 1970.phrakhru siddhikhanarakEver since joining the Order, he has been active in Dhammaduta and community service. In the early years he set up English and Thai language, Dhamma classes at Wat Padang Pusing and other rural areas in Kedah. As a young monk, he observed the Phansa (Rain-residence) at Wats in Kedah, Penang and Selangor. From his residence at various Wats, he came to realize that facilities were lacking for locally ordained monks who could practice prior to embarking in Dhammaduta work. With this in mind, he set up a retreat center in Kedah at Bukit Perak.wat bukit perak kedahIn 2013, he consented to be on the Monastic Advisory Panel of the Theravāda Buddhist Council of Malaysia.
